Jacomb reinterprets artefacts of Maori and Pacific culture such as the canoe (waka) and paddle (hoe), war club (patu), fish trap and ceremonial objects in glass using traditional Venetian techniques. Underlying the mastery of these complex techniques are Jacomb’s highly developed talents of blowing, casting and cameo-cutting. This canoe paddle exemplifies his refined skills.

New Zealand born Luke Jacomb has returned home after eight years in the United States where he rose to the forefront of the studio glass movement. He has received considerable critical attention, awards and inclusion in major museum collections worldwide including the Ebeltoff Glass Museum (Denmark), Corning Museum of Glass (New York, USA) and the New Orleans Museum of Art (USA). The Otago Museum held a solo show of his work in 2011.
