Seung Yul Oh explores illusion and perception in Round Around, questioning how we visually receive information from an object to understand its physicality and volume. True to Oh’s playful yet precise approach to art-making, this work is immaculately executed.
Born in 1981 in Seoul, Korea, Seung Yul Oh moved to Auckland in 2000. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (2003) and a Master of Fine Arts (2005) from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland. Oh was awarded the Goldwater Art Award in 2003 and the Waikato National Art Award in 2004. Solo exhibitions include Oddooki at Te Papa and Daradaradarada and Ssendddong at Starkwhite Gallery, Auckland in 2008. In 2006, he exhibited in 5.4.3.2.1. Auckland Artist Projects at Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland; and Chew Chew Tongue at Starkwhite Gallery, Auckland.
