Graham Bennett’s sculptures deal with relationships between people, place and identity, with particular reference to the Pacific region. Each piece contains references to maps, navigation and land measurement. He questions the fragile world we inhabit and the nature of physical and social interactions. The delicately balanced forms of these sculptures “challenge what balance means in our life, actions and relationships with the earth and others” says Bennett.
Bennett graduated from the University of Canterbury’s School of Fine Arts in 1970. He has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, with eleven of these in Japan. His work is sought after for public and private collections throughout the country and overseas. Bennett has gained a number of significant grants and awards throughout his career, most recently the NZ Japan Exchange Programme Grant in 2007 and 2008.
