Iceberg follows earlier explorations into Foster’s local wildlife and geographical location. The seal is represented through a sculptural language akin with the jagged mountain peaks that form the backdrop of his Kaikōura home and studio. Meticulously finished in mirror polished marine grade stainless steel, the viewer is presented not only with New Zealand’s iconic fur seal, but also the reflection of themselves and the environment through the faceted surfaces of the highly detailed form. Foster encourages the viewer to see themselves within and as an integral part of nature.
